Escape London Town: Ferguson Tavern

The year is 1763.  You and your travel companions wake to find yourselves locked inside Ferguson Tavern.  While your memories of the prior evening are a little fuzzy, you quickly realize that your travel papers and money are missing and that your ship is leaving in just one hour!  Can you make it out in time?

Escape London Town: Ferguson Tavern is the first escape room experience created by Historic London Town and Gardens.  Escape rooms are real life interactive games where players must uncover clues, solve puzzles, and crack codes if they hope to escape in an hour or less.  For this experience, we have turned the Lord Mayor’s Tenement (one of our reconstructed colonial buildings) into Elizabeth Ferguson’s tavern. Working in groups of 4 to 10 players, you will have the opportunity to match wits against Elizabeth to see if you can escape her tavern.

Elizabeth has left for the market before you wake up and, after your night of rowdy carousing, she fears that you might leave without paying her!  She has taken your belongings, hidden them away, and locked you inside her tavern until she can return home. You and your fellow travelers must work together to figure out how to retrieve your personal items and free yourselves, before your ship leaves for England.  If your party can work through all of her challenges in less than one hour, you win!

FAQ

Are advance tickets required?

Yes, tickets must be purchased at least 24 hours in advance.  Each game session of our escape room requires a minimum of 4 people and has a maximum of 10 people.

What if there are still available tickets for our game session?

If your group does not buy all 10 of the available tickets for a game session, those spots will remain open for other guests to purchase.  There is a possibility that you may be paired with other guests, up to the maximum of 10 people per room. If you would like to guarantee that you will not be paired with other guests, you will need to purchase all 10 game session tickets.

Can I purchase an entire escape room game session?

Yes, you can!  If you would like to buy out an entire escape room game session, you must purchase all 10 available tickets.  It is not necessary to have 10 players to buy out the room, but, by buying all the available tickets, you can guarantee that only the members of your group will be able to play the game during your session.

Can I book a private escape room experience for a special event?

Yes, you can!  If you’d like to schedule a private escape room experience, such as part of a birthday celebration, corporate meeting, or company retreat, contact us at londontown@historiclondontown.org or 410-222-1919 x200.

Does my escape room ticket include regular site admission?

No, your escape room ticket does not include regular site admission.  Escape room game sessions occur outside regular visitation hours and none of the other buildings will be open during this time.  If you would like to see more of London Town during the day, consider becoming a member. Membership gets you free admission to the site during regular visiting hours and a discount on escape room tickets as well!

What is London Town’s cancellation policy for the escape room?

Historic London Town and Gardens reserves the right to cancel, change, or alter any program. We will confirm schedule changes via the email address provided at registration. If the program takes place Wednesday-Sunday, you may also check this website for museum closure information.

What is London Town’s refund policy for the escape room?

In the event that you are unable to attend a program for which you have registered, and your request is received by London Town with more than 7 days notice, you will be issued a 75% refund. If you cancel with less than 7 days notice, you will forfeit your ticket and its associated cost. To request a refund, please email londontown@historiclondontown.org or call 410-222-1919 x200 during regular business hours.

Are there age restrictions?

Attendees must be at least 13 years old to participate.  Please note that while there is nothing inappropriate about the escape room, it does occur in a pretend tavern, after a night of carousing and revelry.  Additionally, the puzzles are complex, so we do require at least one participating adult of 18+.

Are there any accessibility concerns?

This escape room will require the ability to climb stairs in a reconstructed historic building, as well as, the ability to see and complete mental and manual manipulation puzzles.

When should my group arrive?

Please have all group members check in at the Visitor Center front desk 15 minutes prior to your game session.  This allows players time to use the restroom, store their belongings, and participate in the 10 minute escape room introduction.

How long does the program last?

After a 10 minute introduction, you and your group will have 60 minutes to escape Ferguson Tavern.  Following the game session, you will have the option to participate in a short digital photo op with our props.

Where do I start my escape room game session?

Please begin by checking in at the front desk in our Visitor Center.  Once checked in, you will be directed to our conference room to begin your introduction.

What if someone in my group is running late?

If the only players during a session are from your group, you can decide whether or not you would like to wait, but time will not be added to your session for a tardy player.  This could mean that you get less than an hour to escape. Once you start the game, no other players will be able to join mid-game.

If there are other groups booked during your session that are ready to go on time, we will start on time.  Once the room has started, players will not be able to join mid-game.

There are no refunds for players that arrive late.

Will we actually be locked inside?

No, there will be a lock on the only entry/exit door, but it will not inhibit exiting the building.  The door can be opened at any time, but if the door is opened, the game clock will not stop and it will not count as actually escaping the room.  If you need to leave for any reason, you may, but no game time will be added to your session while you are gone.

What do I need (or not need) to bring with me?

Realistically, just yourself and your fellow players.  Everything you will need to escape the room will be found inside with you.  In fact, you will not be allowed to bring in any outside items or technologies.  Exceptions will be made for any medically necessary devices.

What will I do with my personal belongings while I’m in the room?

You can either lock those items in your personal vehicle or leave them in our locked Visitor Center conference room.

As this is a reconstructed historic building, do I need to be extra careful while playing the game?

All we ask is that you treat our site with respect.  While most everything is hands-on, you will never need to move a piece of furniture or use any kind of force to solve a puzzle.

What if we get stuck on a puzzle?

During every session of the escape room, there will be a member of London Town’s staff in the room with you.  It is his or her job to help you should you find yourself in need of assistance. You will be provided 5 clue cards that you can turn in for help if you are stuck.

Can I take photographs or videos while we are playing the game?

We ask that you refrain from taking any photographs or videos during your escape room game session.

Can we bring food and drinks with us?

Unfortunately, no but there are several great restaurants nearby to enjoy before or after your escape room experience!
