Colonial Encounters Exhibit

Colonial Encounters Exhibit at Historic London Town and Garden

The Maryland State Archives’ traveling exhibit, entitled Colonial Encounters in the Chesapeake: The Natural World of Native Americans, Europeans and Africans, 1585-1800 is currently on display at Historic London Town and Gardens Visitor Center through December 2009. This exhibit, accompanied by a small catalog, traces the impact of the earliest inhabitants of the Chesapeake Bay on the ecology of the region, from European contact with native cultures to the dawn of the industrial era. Using the history of interaction between humans and the environment, the colorful six-panel display challenges the viewer to apply this knowledge to help shape the natural world of the future.
