Learn about woody plants, woodland favorites, the basics of soil and grafting heirloom tomatoes at Historic London Town and Gardens. This year’s Garden Workshops will take place every Thursday at 10 a.m. during the month of March. They begin on Thursday, March 4 at 10 a.m. in the London Town Visitor Center with Tony Dove, horticulturist at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. He will discuss Azaleas and Rhododendrons for the Mid-Atlantic Region. The workshops continue on Thursday, March 11 at 10 a.m. in the Pavilion with Dr. Richard Olsen, lead scientist for the urban tree breeding program at the U. S. National Arboretum. Dr. Olsen will speak on What’s New in Woody PlantsDr. Frank Gouin, Professor Emeritus, University of Maryland, returns to London Town on March 18 at 10 a.m. with “the dirt” on What Gardeners Need to Know about Soil. Dr. Gouin’s workshop will be held in the Pavilion. On Thursday, March 25 at 10 a.m., the series concludes with a discussion and demonstration of Grafting Heirloom Tomatoes for Disease Resistance and Productivity by horticulturist, Maggie Wiles and Cathy Umphrey, Director of Horticulture. This workshop will be held in the Pavilion and is limited to 30 people. Please call to make reservations.
