Take a guided tour of our Historic Area, which includes Maryland's largest on-going archaeological investigation in search of the "lost town" of London. A portion of this colonial tobacco port, created by legislation in 1683, is being reconstructed, including the Lord Mayor's Tenement, the Carpenter Shop, and the Rumney/West Archaeological Site. The William Brown House, a National Historic Landmark, built circa 1760 as an upscale urban tavern, overlooks the South River and site of the ferry landing and once active waterfront. Follow one of our expert gardeners to discover the many gardens of London Town. The colonial kitchen, Dr. Richard Hill, and African-American gardens are located in the Historic Area. The eight-acres of Woodland Gardens feature a botanical collection of native plants and exotic species, arranged along a one-mile trail. Originally conceived in the 1970s, the Woodland Gardens showcase many varieties of cold-hardy camellias, hollies, magnolias, azaleas, and peonies. Vibrant, seasonal ornamental gardens surround the Pavilion, southern Anne Arundel County's premier space for weddings, receptions, business meetings, and other special events.
