Development and Communications Assistant Position

Chief Objectives of the Position:
Historic London Town and Gardens is looking for an enthusiastic and creative individual to serve as the Development and Communications Assistant (DCA). The DCA will work with the Deputy Director to improve awareness of the site, enhance our communications, and deepen engagement with our supporters. The DCA will also assist with our annual benefit, the Privateer Party, and perform some administrative tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communications (50% of time)
Create regular email, website, and blog updates
Develop and schedule social media posts and ads
Update local media outlets about programs and news
Create and distribute program flyers
Proofread and copyedit e-mails, publications, and reports
Conduct special projects as necessary
Fundraising (40% of time)
Manage our customer relations database (NeonCRM): conduct data entry; create donor and member acknowledgement letters; generate mailing lists; and create event registration links
Assist with planning and executing special fundraising events, especially the annual benefit
Assist with preparing appeals and thank you letters
Research potential grants and sponsorships. Assist with drafting proposals and funder reports
Conduct special projects as necessary
Administration (10% of time)
Reviewing and ordering supplies for the site
Other administrative support needs as necessary
Please note that employees who work at Historic London Town and Gardens work for the nonprofit London Town Foundation. The Foundation is generally considered a small organization in terms of personnel. As such all employees should expect to perform tasks outside of their usual assignments.
Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess all of the following:
Familiarity with communications and fundraising
Excellent writing skills
Very good organizational and time management skills
Strong attention to detail
The following education and experience are preferred but not required:
Experience working with museums or public gardens a plus
Graphic design abilities/experience a plus
Experience with any or all of the following programs:
customer relations management (CRM) database, especially NeonCRM
email marketing service, especially Mailchimp
website development platform, especially Wix or Wordpress
social media platforms and online ad creation
Work Schedule:
Reports to Deputy Director. Position begins in January 2020. This is a 35 hour per week position, although some weeks (especially around Privateer Party, November 13, 2020) may require 40 hours. Teleworking 1 day a week an option after a 90-day probationary period.
Compensation and Benefits:
$16.00 per hour. This is considered a full-time position and is eligible for the following benefits:

Historic London Town and Gardens is a 23-acre park featuring history, archaeology, and horticulture on the South River in Edgewater, Maryland. The park is owned by Anne Arundel County and managed by the London Town Foundation, a non-profit organization, under a formal operating agreement with the county government. The Foundation is responsible for developing and conducting interpretive, recreational, and educational programs that allow visitors to learn about our historical, archaeological, and horticultural offerings.
