Position Description

Chief Objectives of the Position

A working supervisory position that oversees, directs, and administers facilities-related maintenance and janitorial functions at Historic London Town and Gardens. The Facilities Manager supervises the maintenance staff and coordinates facilities and janitorial needs amongst all departments. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee general maintenance and janitorial needs for London Town.

  • Schedule, supervise, and evaluate other maintenance staff for daily needs and other site projects.

  • Coordinate with other staff to ensure timely and appropriate completion of maintenance needs.

  • Responsible for ordering maintenance and janitorial supplies and equipment within the budget.

  • Responsible for ensuring that maintenance tools and equipment are kept clean, functional, and safe.

  • Responsible for ensuring that tables, chairs, and other furniture and equipment are clean, functional, and safe.

  • Is the primary contact with Anne Arundel County FMD for facilities needs.

  • Ensures that facilities needs and repair issues are passed on to the Executive Director and the County as necessary.

  • Coordinate with external contractors as needed for maintenance, facilities, and janitorial needs.

  • As needed, assist the horticulture staff with general clean-up operations including: snow removal; remove leaves, sticks, and other debris from grounds; clear sidewalks, parking lots, gutters, and catch basins.

  • Operate small and large mechanical equipment used for site maintenance/janitorial needs including: tractor, utility vehicles, drills and other power tools, etc.

  • Responsible for maintaining work area and performing job duties in a manner which complies with federal, state, and London Town safety policies.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

  • Willingness and ability to perform physical work outside in all weather conditions

  • Ability to carry, climb, stoop, reach, dig and load and unload various objects

  • Ability to operate various power tools, including but not limited to, chainsaws, blowers, mowers, weed eaters, tillers, trucks, as well as a variety of gardening hand tools

Working Conditions

  • Must be willing to work independently or as part of a team

  • Certain tasks will require working outside in a variety of weather conditions

Work Schedule

This is a 37.5 to 40 hour per week position. Normal work days will be Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend work will be required and scheduled in advance. Limited overtime opportunities. The work day will start between 8:00am and 8:30am (depending on the time of year and site needs).

Compensation and Benefits

The position starts at $20 per hour ($40,000 - $41,600 per year).

It is considered a full-time position and is eligible for the following benefits:
