Honoring J.J. Bernard & Victoria Lerch, III
At this year's Privateer Party, we are proud to honor J.J. Bernard & Victoria Lerch, III.
Victoria "Vicki" Lerch has recently retired after over 35 years of service to London Town, including serving as the William Brown House Curator. She continues to volunteer as a docent. Bernard is a former board member and continues to volunteer with the gardens. Both have been generous donors to the site and instrumental in the creation of the reconstructed Lord Mayor's Tenement.
In honor of Vicki's retirement, the Victoria Lerch William Brown House Collections Fund has been established. These funds shall be used to care for and add to the material culture collection within the William Brown House. Donations can be made to this fund in her honor here.

Fund-a-Need: Horticulture Intern
The Fund-a-Need raises money to pay for a horticulture intern to assist in the gardens. This internship opportunity doesn't just make a difference in the gardens, but it also introduces a young person to the possibility of a career in horticulture and public gardens.
This past summer, the horticulture intern recipient was Ben Lammers (shown left), a rising senior at Washington College. During his internship, Ben worked on many different projects across the site. He has removed dead trees and invasive plants. He’s created new pathways. He even worked with his grandfather to replace the bridge in the Dell. Recently, he helped construct the bio-swale to the Dell and worked with a Boy Scout group to put in a new set of stairs.
Director of Horticulture Meenal Harankhedkar describes Ben as “land stewardship in energizer hands! The speed at which Ben completed his projects was outstanding! I have rarely seen the work ethic he has towards the project goals and the respect he has towards the land. All projects were completed very thoroughly, every single time.”
Ben says he loves working at London Town because he likes being outdoors. He also appreciates being able to see the difference a project makes in a short amount of time. But London Town has also taught him other valuable skills. He’s worked with different staff and volunteer groups. He's learned about leading projects and working with different personalities. He says, “Working at London Town has taught me how to work with people and how to be a responsible person in the workforce.”
Ben isn’t sure yet what he’ll do after he graduates college. He hopes to stay in the area and continue working with his hands outside. He’s thinking about working in public service, whether with a non-profit or government agency. He wants to continue his education and work to make a positive difference in the world.

SPONSORS
IN-KIND SPONSORS
Become a Sponsor!
Being a sponsor ensures London Town thrives for the community. Last year, nearly 200 attendees raised more than $40,000 in support of our efforts to preserve and share this colonial site’s special history and gorgeous woodland & ornamental gardens. These funds ensure London Town can serve over 5,500 students and 10,000 visitors annually – primarily from Anne Arundel County and central Maryland.
The Privateer Party is also a prime opportunity to let our generous supporters know about your services:
-
In addition to paying $100+ for a ticket, the majority of attendees then spent $250 – 500 on luxurious auction items, such as vacations, hand-made furniture, and more
-
Our attendees come from diverse age ranges and live locally in Anne Arundel County
-
There are attendees attend the Privateer Party because they are considering future events, such as weddings and want to see potential vendors in our unique setting
We are grateful for our sponsors. They support us because they believe in London Town’s mission of preserving our historical and horticultural resources for the education and enjoyment of our community. Your sponsorship sends an important message to this community that you recognize the vital role that London Town serves as a place where people can connect and engage with history, horticulture, and education.
