Gifts of Stocks

Gifts of stock and other securities are a popular way to give to charity as is London Town Foundation, a 501-c-3 organization (Federal Tax ID: 52-1396159)

​

There are favorable tax rules for donors who want to donate long-term (stock owned for greater than one year)

  • Donors never have to pay capital gains on the appreciated stock

  • Donors get a deduction equal to the fair market value of the stock at the time the transfer (its increased value)

  • No matter how large the donation, there is no need to obtain an appraisal

If you want your donation completed before December 31, please initiate the transaction on or before December 20. Thank you. 

 

Before initiating a gift, please contact Melanie Kincaid at developmentdirector@historiclondontown.org or 410-222-1919 x205 so that we know to expect the securities you are donating and can promptly acknowledge your contribution.

In accordance with IRS guidelines, the date of your gift will be the date the securities depart your account at your financial institution. For crediting purposes, the value is determined as the average of the high and low listings for the stock on that date.
